WHY UDP AND THE REST MUST RALLY BEHIND MAMMA KANDEH:

It was no accident that I reference Mamma Kandeh in my headline instead of GDC. My support for Mamma isn’t party affiliation as much as it is the solidity of his candidature. I do NOT belong to any political party anyways but I am a REALIST. A realist is not stuck on some hardcore principles while failing to see the bigger picture.

I was born and raised in Serekunda or vicinity. Like many kids of my generation/community we grew up to the conscious message of PDOIS (Halifa/Sedia). They had solid ideas that many political parties of their generation did not, they were unparalleled when it comes to specifics. But ideas alone do not win election, it is a combination of many factors. For the past couple of elections they had fewer votes than both NRP and UDP. Until PDOIS masters the art of politics, it’ll be the party of wonderful ideas but no substance. I am a REALIST.

UDP have performed better than the rest of the old oppositions in the past elections and I believe they have a strong leverage in helping bring the old opposition from the shadows. I must say that UDP is on a lifeline, their next move will determined its political future.

They can act like a sulking spoiled-brat and boycott the elections like they did in the past, they can decide to show pride and field an unprepared candidate with less than 3 months to the elections. All of which will be political suicide and probably cement UDP as a party of blunders and angry people.

Best yet they can cut a DEAL with GDC and throw their full support behind Mamma Kandeh. This goodwill will forever cement UDP as a great party that decided to put the interest of the nation ahead of its own. Just imagine the amount of love and coadunation this will signal. That force will be too great for Dictator Jammeh to STOP, this can be done.

So far, GDC and UDP have proven that they can pull the crowd, one have a solid candidate the other have no candidate.

Folks, I love the idea of a coalition with outside candidate, but it is unpractical at this point, we must realize the urgency and the time frame, election is only 3 months away. Why take risk with a new candidate with no guarantee that he/she can energize the electorates like Mamma. I am a REALIST.

Folks we cannot allow this opportunity to past us, if we do, our next president will be MOHAMMED JAMMEH, yes, you heard me right. That’s how long we’ll probably wait before a new president.
